Moroccan Karim Bencherifa, who parted ways as Mohun Bagan coach recently, will take charge at Salgaocar SC on February 17, club secretary Raj Gomes said.
Roy Barreto, was understood to be the first choice for coach after Tim Hankinson was sacked, but after snapping ties with Mohun Bagan, Karim who enjoys cordial relations with Salgaocar officials emerged a front-runner.
This will be Karim's second coaching stint in Goa as he was at the helm of affairs with Churchill Bros until the end of the 2nd I-Legue last year, before he switched allegiance to the Kolkata giants, only to resign from the job during the on-going 3rd I-League.
"The win against Viva Kerala has raised the teams confidence who will be looking to lift the team out of the relegation zone under Karim when the second phase begins.
