India finished their campaign in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games with eight medals, including six silver and two bronze as curtain came down on the multi-discipline sporting event in Singapore on Thursday.

By virtue of the medals, India managed 58th position in the medals tally among 84 countries. China topped the chart with a total of 51 medals -- 30 gold, 16 silver and five bronze.

With 43 medals (18 gold, 14 silver, 11 bronze) Russia finished second while South Korea bagged the third position with a total of 19 medals (11 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze).

India had sent a 32-member contingent to the Games, which was participated by around 3,600 athletes in the age group of 14-18.

Following their impressive performance in the inaugural Games, the Athletics Federation of India has already promised a warm welcome for the contingent when they arrive home on Friday.

Grappler Pooja Dhanda had claimed India's first medal -- a silver in the women's 60kg freestyle category, while Satywart Kadian had won a bronze in the men's 100kg freestyle division.

Discus thrower Arjun bagged a silver and then Durgesh Kumar picked another silver in the 400m hurdles.

Junior World Championship bronze medallist shuttler H S Prannoy gave India another silver after losing to Pisit Poodchalat of Thailand in the boys singles final.

Promising tennis player Yuki Bhambri, who was in impressive form, had to contend with silver as he was forced to retire in the final against Juan Sebastian Gomez of Colombia because of injury.

Pugilists Shiva Thapa and Vikas Krishan rounded off India's tally with a silver and a bronze in the 60kg and 54kg respectively.
