Come December, Inter will play Inter.

Brazilian club Internacional's triumph over Mexican side Guadalajara on Thursday in the Copa Libertadores -- the South American equivalent of the Champions League -- final has ensured the possibility of a match-up with their European namesake, Internazionale, in the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi at the year-end.

It was the second South American title for coach Celso Roth's club, the first Libertadores trophy coming in 2006 at the expense of compatriots and holders Sao Paolo.

The Italian club had earlier in May made sure of a berth in Abu Dhabi when they beat German club Bayern Munich 2-0 in the Champions League final at the Santiago Bernebeu stadium.

On most occasions in the Club World Cup, the South American and European champions meet in the final. So an Inter vs Inter final is very much a possibility.

It will be second instance of clubs with similar names facing each other this year.

Earlier this month, Premier League club Everton faced their Chilean namesake in the pre-season Brotherhood Cup at Goodison Park, the English club winning 2-0.

It was the first meeting of the two Evertons, with the Chilean club being formed 101 years ago after the English side went on a tour of South America in 1909.

As regards the two Inters, the Nerazzurri last played their Porto Alegre-based namesake in the Dubai Cup in January 2008.

The Brazilian side had won 2-1 on that occasion.

The Italian club has witnessed a significant managerial change since that memorable triumph in May -- with Rafa Benitez replacing Jose Mourinho.

The Spaniard had a topsy turvy tenure at the Merseyside and how well he adapts to San Siro -- still in party after Mourinho's treble achievements -- remains to be seen.

One thing is certain: Rafa's Inter have every reason to be worried about their Brazilian namesake.

The last occasion Internacional played in the Club World Cup final they bested favourites FC Barcelona to take home the trophy.

Will Inter be able to stop Inter?

We will know in four months.
