Tejaswini Sawant [ Images ], the first Indian woman shooter to clinch a gold medal at the World Championships, met Shiv Sena [ Images ] chief Bal Thackeray [ Images ] in Mumbai [ Images ] on Thursday.
Sawant, accompanied by Kolhapur 'Sampark Pramukh' of Sena, Arun Dudhwalkar, met the Sena chief at Matoshree, his suburban residence in Bandra.
The Maharashtra [ Images ] cabinet on Wednesday had congratulated Sawant for her feat at the World Championships in Munich, Germany [ Images ], where she shot a world-record equalling score of 597 (100,100,100,99,99,99) in the 50m Rifle Prone event to finish on top.
She equalled the 1998 record, set by Marina Bobkova of Russia [ Images ].
The Sena chief lauded Tejaswini's achievement at the World Championships and promised to help her financially.
He�used the occasion to attack Suresh Kalmadi [ Images ], chief of the Commonwealth Games' [ Images ] organizing committee.
"Kalmadi has ruined the Games. What should I say about mismanagement of the Commonwealth Games event and criticism the country is facing. Ask Delhi [ Images ] about it," Thackeray said while replying a query on the alleged corruption scandal that has hit the Games.
"He (Kalmadi) is not a trustworthy person. He had come to me after leaving Congress (in late 90s) and I told him to stay here properly but in vain," Thackeray said.
