Baljit to have lens implanted into injured eye

Indian hockey goalkeeper Baljit Singh, who is being treated in the United States for a career-threatening eye injury, will undergo a lens implant on Thursday before the doctors decide when to discharge him for returning home.

Baljit said he is feeling better though it will take some more time to analyse the percentage of improvement in his operated right eye.

"The right eye started shrinking and the pressure was also less as compared to the left eye. So, silicone oil was put to help improve the pressure on the eye about ten days ago. On Thursday, the doctors will implant lens on my right eye. After observation for about four-five days, the date for my return to India will be decided," Baljit said from Baltimore in Alabama.

Earlier this month, Baljit had said he was able to identify colours after undergoing laser treatment to his right eye, which was injured while training with a golf ball in July at a camp in Pune.

Baljit thanked Sports Minister MS Gill who was instrumental in his getting medical assistance in the USA.

Gill had assured that Baljit would get all possible help in order to treat his eye injury.
