His success at the Olympics raised the profile of boxing in India. Now, Vijender Singh hopes to add the glamour quotient too it in a reality show on television.

The Olympics bronze medallist will co-host The Contender, an adaption of a popular US television series that is based a group of boxers who compete against each other in a single elimination style competition.

The show will also launch a unique promotional ground activity called Fight Nights, a platform wherein amateur and up-and-coming boxers get a chance to try their hand against a professional opponent in the ring.

"Contender will promote boxing in India and take it to another level by providing platform to the deserving candidates. It will be another vehicle for boxers to drive right into the heart of international competition," said Vijender about his association with the show

Earlier this month, the Haryana pugilist won a bronze medal at the World boxing Championships in Milan to become the first Indian to win a medal in the competition.

"This is the first time an Indian has won a medal in the event. A road has opened for us. We should be optimistic," Vijender said.

He believes that the standard of Indian boxers has improved and in the next few years they could fetch more medals for the country.

"Overall, the performance of the boxers was good. Dinesh Kumar and Suranjoy did well. The boxers they lost to went on to become silver medallists. I was lucky that I could win a medal for the country."
