Bayern move into German Cup quarters

Bayern Munich crushed hosts Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 with a superb display of attacking football on Wednesday to advance to the German Cup quarter-finals.

Frankfurt, beaten 2-1 by Bayern in the Bundesliga on Saturday, provided no resistance as the Bavarians stampeded through their defence, netting three times in the first half-hour.

Miroslav Klose celebrates with his Bayern teammatesGermany striker Miroslav Klose, only recently back from injury, looked as sharp as ever when he lifted the ball over keeper Oka Nikolov in the 13th minute after captain Mark van Bommel had sent a perfect chip into the box for him.

Thomas Mueller then set up Klose for his second five minutes later before the gifted 20-year-old grabbed one himself courtesy of a Klose pass and a terrible backpass from Frankfurt's Maik Franz.

Italian striker Toni, battling for a starting spot, completed the demolition job with a header from a sweet Mueller cross in the second half.

Holders Werder Bremen beat second division Kaiserslautern 3-0 with Petri Pasanen and Tim Borowski netting in the first half and Torsten Oehrl making sure of their quarter-final spot.

Visitors Schalke 04 downed TSV 1860 Munich 3-0, with Benedikt Hoewedes scoring a brace after Brazilian Rafinha had put them in the lead.
