Giancarlo Fisichella [ Images ] came agonisingly close to scoring Force India's [ Images ] maiden Formula One points before eventually finishing ninth, while his German teammate Adrian Sutil [ Images ] placed 14th in the Monaco Grand Prix [ Images ] in Monte Carlo on Sunday.
For the second successive year, Force India experienced heartbreak at Monaco, as Fisichella, running eighth after 53 laps, dropped down and finished just outside the points bracket.
Having managed their best start of the season, with Fisichella starting the race 13th on the grid and Sutil on 15th, Force India had a lot to look forward to as the Italian was up in 11th after 28 laps.
By lap 40, Fisichella had cut through the midfield clutter to rise to ninth. With Heikki Kovalainen [ Images ] cramming his McLaren [ Images ] into the swimming pool wall after 53 laps, Fisichella was among the points at eighth place.
The veteran of more than 200 races, however, could not hold on to his position and dropped down to the ninth, something he could not improve for the remainder of the race.
