Somdev fails to make French Open main draw

Somdev Devvarman couldn't realize his dream of playing in the main draw of the French Open.

The Indian Davis Cupper suffered a straight sets defeat at the hands of third seed Marcos Daniel of Brazil in the final round of qualifiers, in Paris, on Friday.

Seeded 26th in the qualifiers, he was beaten 0-6, 1-6 in a one-sided affair that lasted just 58 minutes.

Somdev failed to hold serve in the first set which was over in 23 minutes.

The second set was no different though he held once before it was over in 35 minutes.

The Brazilian registered 30 winners compared to nine by his opponent, who failed to convert a single break-point opportunity out of the five he earned.

Daniel converted five of the eight break-points he earned.
