World no 1 Lee falls at first hurdle in India

March 25, 2009 13:17 IST

An ailing Lee Chong Wei suffered a shock loss to China's Chen Long in the first round of the Indian Open in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The Malaysian world number one went down 21-7, 16-21, 18-21 in 50 minutes to the Chinese world number 147, blaming an upset stomach for his defeat.

Indonesia's former Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat, the second seed, opens his campaign against Indian qualifier K Nandagopal later on Wednesday.
