The International Tennis Federation will consider an appeal from India seeking a heavier penalty on Australia for forfeiting last month's Davis Cup tie in Chennai due to security concerns.
The ITF said on Friday it had received an appeal from the All India Tennis Association (AITA) which would be discussed at a board meeting on July 15.
Australia were fined $10,000 after refusing to travel for the zonal tie in Chennai but the ITF's Davis Cup Committee decided not to ban the 28-times champions from the 2010 competition.
"The AITA has appealed to the ITF board of directors against the decision of the Davis Cup committee imposing just a fine of $10,000," an Indian tennis official, who did not wish to be identified, said.
"A higher penalty should be imposed... otherwise it will give the impression they were correct in not coming to India and that is a concern."
India also want the ITF to rule that the next two ties between the nations should be played in India.
Security for sports teams in the sub-continent has been questioned after the ambush of the Sri Lanka cricket team's bus in Lahore, Pakistan, in March. That followed militant attacks in Mumbai in November that killed 166 people.
