Olympic badminton champs shocked by British pair

Olympic gold medal pair Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia were beaten by an unheralded British duo in the men's doubles final of the US $200,000 Aviva Open in Singapore on Sunday.

Anthony Clark and Nathan Robertson, ranked 19th in the world, shocked the No 1 ranked Indonesians in a dominant 21-12, 21-11 victory in the fifth Super Series event of the year, which continues next week in Jakarta.

Bao Chunlai of China won the men's singles final in a hard-fought match against Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana, 21-19, 16-21, 21-15.

Earlier in the tournament, world No 1 Lee Chong Wei lost to Vietnamese shuttler Nguyen Tien Minh.

In the women's singles final, Hong Kong's Zhou Mi, ranked No 2 in the world, defeated former world No 1 Xie Xingfang of China 21-19, 18-21, 21-10.

In the women's doubles final, China's Zhao Tingting and Zhang Yawen defeated Indonesia's Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Greysia Polii, 21-14, 21-13.

Zheng Bo and Ma Jin beat their Chinese counterparts Zhang and Xie Zhongbo, 19-21, 21-19, 21-11 to win the mixed doubles crown.
