Man United's Macheda robbed at home

July 13, 2009 19:59 IST

Manchester United's Italian teenage striker Federico Macheda has been robbed at home by raiders who stole cash and jewellery and injured a friend staying with him, a police source said on Monday.

Two masked men burst into Macheda's home in Sale, Greater Manchester, early on Sunday morning, hitting his friend on the head with a bottle, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to the house at 0240 GMT, following reports of a robbery.

"Two men stole cash and jewellery from the victims before running out of the house," police said. "One man suffered a minor cut to his head in the robbery."

Macheda, 17, who joined United from Lazio last September, scored two goals in his first two Premier League matches in April.

The raid follows a series of break-ins at the homes of Liverpool and Manchester players in recent months, usually staged while they were away playing high-profile matches.
