I regret taunting Arsenal fans: Adebayor

December 02, 2009 13:38 IST

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has admitted he was wrong to taunt Arsenal fans.

Emmanuel AdebayorIt may be recalled that he ran the length of the field to celebrate in front of the Gunners' contingent after scoring in his side's 4-2 Premier League win at Eastlands in September.

Now Adebayor, 25, is preparing to take on his former team again in the Carling Cup quarterfinals tonight in Manchester, The Sun reports.

He said: "Of course I regret it. We all have to make mistakes to become a better person. Barack Obama will make a lot of mistakes. Cristiano Ronaldo has made a lot of mistakes.

"Sir Alex Ferguson apologised for what he said against the ref.  But I heard some singing insulting my dad, insulting my mum. I am thinking that we can't take everything, we are only human beings."

Adebayor earned a 25,000-pound fine for his antics.

He was also handed a three-game ban after a game in which his boot ended up in Robin Van Persie's face.

The Togo international has no intention on going easy on Arsenal on Wednesday night and wants to prove he is back to full fitness after his ban lay-off and an ankle injury.
