One person was killed, 15 others injured and a premier resort in the outskirts of Kolkata was set on fire on Sunday following a clash that broke out after a football match on a ground next to the resort.

The police said the problem started after the defeated team suddenly attacked the winners with bombs and guns.

When locals gathered, the attackers entered the resort, Vedic Village, for shelter and the attackers set several cottages of the resort on fire.

"One person was killed and over 15 were injured in the clash. The injured were hospitalised. At least 30 cottages have been burnt and 10 fire tenders are trying to control the blaze," DIG (Presidency Range), S N Gupta said.

"All senior officers have rushed to the spot. Police and Rapid Action Force have brought the situation under control" Gupta added.

"We are investigating the incident and those found guilty will not be spared," IG (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha said.
