World record sprinter Usain Bolt [ Images ] of Jamaica suffered minor injuries on Wednesday when he crashed his BMW [ Images ] sports car on the outskirts of his Caribbean homeland's capital, authorities said.
Bolt, 22, lost control of the high-powered vehicle and plowed into a ditch on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
He injured his left foot as he stepped out of the car and was treated, along with his brother and a female companion, for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.
Bolt, who won the men's 100 and 200-meters competitions with record times at the Beijing [ Images ] Olympic Games [ Images ] in August, was released after treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital, his manager Norman Peart said in a statement.
"We are keeping a close watch on Usain and will update the public as is necessary," he said.
