India had a mixed day at the US $50,000 ATP Challenger event in Tallahassee as Prakash Amritraj advanced to the second round but Somdev Devvarman crashed out of the tournament.
Amritraj had to dig deep into his reserves to beat local wild card Michael McClune 6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (3) in his opening round.
He will meet another American and fourth seed Vincent Spadea in the pre-quarterfinals.
India's top ranked player Somdev made an early exit after losing his first round match 3-6, 3-6 against Australian Marinkc Matosevic.
