World number one Rafael Nadal charged into the quarter-finals of the rain-hit Monte Carlo Masters with a 6-3, 6-0 demolition of Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti on Friday.
The four-times champion won his match held over from Thursday in 93 minutes and will next face Ivan Ljubicic, who dismissed Italian Simone Bolelli 7-5, 7-6.
With four third-round matches suspended because of rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, Briton Andy Murray was also playing catch-up and beat Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini 7-6, 6-4.
The quarter-final line-up was completed when eighth seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, who beat Argentine 12th seed David Nalbandian 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, booked a last eight meeting with Murray.
Furth-seeded Murray overcame a terrible start to reach the quarter-finals of a claycourt tournament for the first time in his career.
The 21-year-old Murray was totally outclassed by the 108th-ranked Fognini in the opening set and looked like a beaten man when he was 5-0 down.
But Fognini failed to press home his advantage and Murray clawed back to take the set 13-11 in the tiebreak.
Murray again rallied from 3-1 down in the second, wrapping up victory on his second match point.
Things went easier for four-times French Open champion Nadal, who has now won his last 24 matches in Monte Carlo.
The claycourt king took the opening set by breaking Lapentti to love and never looked back. He displayed his resolve when he snatched his opponent's serve after an 11-minute fight in the second game and from then on Lapentti simply faded.
All quarter-final matches are set to be played later on Friday.
