ULFA's tax structure
In July, the army held a middle-level ULFA activist
called Palas Bhuiyan and is said to have seized some documents
from him. The documents, according to the army, revealed how all
sections of society were being taxed by the militants. The
monthly break-up, as provided by the army, is as follows:
Heavy industries: Rs 100,000
Medium-scale industries: Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000
Small industries: Rs 500 to Rs 2,000
Shops and hotels: Rs 500
Contractors and public sector: Rs 500 to Rs 2,000
Doctors: Rs 100 to Rs 1,000
Teachers: Rs 100 to Rs 200
Labourers and cart-pullers: Rs 100
