Karnataka orders inquiry into college girl's murder
The Karnataka government has ordered a corps of detectives inquiry
into the murder of a college girl in Puttur in Dakshina Kannada
district last week and the consequent violent incidents that led
to clamping of curfew in the town, Minister of State for Home
Roshan Baig said.
Replying to the issue raised during zero hour on Wednesday by Yogesh Bhat (BJP) and others in the state assembly, the minister said the situation was under control.
He said police had registered 37 cases and arrested 38 people.
Meanwhile, a strike was observed in several villages of Puttur taluk in protest against the girl's murder. Vehicular traffic on the national highway at Gundya and Nelyady in the taluk was disrupted as several road blocks were erected by the protestors.
