Biswas was in a hurry to arrest Laloo: Gupta
Union Home Minister Indrajit Gupta on Wednesday informed
the Rajya Sabha that Central Bureau of Investigation Joint Director U N Biswas was in a hurry to arrest Laloo Prasad Yadav though the Supreme Court had given time till August 6 to execute the arrest warrants in the fodder scam.
Replying to questions on the issue of the CBI seeking the army's
help to arrest Laloo Yadav, the minister said the CBI official flouted the procedure. ''There was no need to arrest Laloo Yadav on the very night of July 26. We do not want any Tom, Dick and Harry to call
the army's help to assist the civil administration,'' he said.
Gupta said a high-level enquiry has been constituted into the issue.
Referring to the installation of Rabri Devi as Bihar chief minister, the minister said it was ridiculous on Laloo Yadav's part to nominate a successor. ''It may be technically correct, but morally and ethically
it is not justified.''
Meanwhile, the condition of Laloo Yadav, who was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna on Tuesday night, was reported to be stable.
IGIMS medical superintendent Dilip Kumar Yadav said Laloo Yadav was admitted to the hospital as he complained of of chest pain and abdominal discomfort. He said the former chief minister was immediately shifted to the intensive care unit.
Laloo Yadav, who was in judicial custody in connection
with the fodder scam, was to appear before the designated
court on Wednesday.
Sushil Kumar Modi, the leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, accused Laloo Yadav of ''displaying a dramatic excuse of illness to escape the CBI's plan to take him into remand.''
Samata Party president George Fernandes also alleged it that was a ''hoax'' and there was nothing wrong with Laloo Yadav's heart or blood pressure.
He said the bogey raised against Biswas only proved that any ''honest man'' would be penalised by the establishment.
