Pattali Makkal Katchi president G K Mani on Tuesday conducted an advisory meeting with several political parties, traders associations and trade unions at Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu, for extending their support to the state-wide general strike call given by the Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement on February 4.

He claimed that traders associations, political parties and trade unions supported the strike call, demanding a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

The strike was for the sake of Sri Lankan Tamils' welfare, he pointed out. He said as per the 10-point guideline, framed by party founder S Ramadoss, all the supporters were urged not to adopt any individual stand either in favour of or against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

All the transport operators and trade unions were also urged to take part in the statewide strike. A black-flag march would be organised across the state on February 7 for the cause of the Sri Lankan Tamils, he said.
