Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Bharatiya Janata Party's nominee for the post of chief minister of Delhi in the forthcoming assembly elections, has asserted that unless the Union government provided full statehood to Delhi and the police was put under the charge of the state government, it would be difficult to provide full protection to the citizens of the capital.
"I am anguished and angry over the manner in which the Central government said it was not possible to protect each and every citizen and nor can the police put a man at every street corner. If they cannot protect citizens of Delhi, then the government must quit," Malhotra said.
Malhotra was unhappy at the free access being provided to terrorists by the state, NGOs and organisations like Human Right's Commission.
"I am shocked at the manner in which questions are being raised about the nature of encounter in which two terrorist were killed in Batla house in south Delhi. Now I understand some kind of inquiry has been ordered against M C Sharma who lost his life in the encounter. It is very unfortunate," he said.
He promised that the manifesto of BJP would emphasis on full statehood. He wondered why the Union government did not take action on the report of the National Security Adviser who had time and again pointed out serious threats to places like Delhi and to leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Kishanchand Advani.
