In a setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Bharatiya Janshakti Party president Uma Bharti's elder brother Swami Prasad Lodhi resigned from the party on Monday.
"I have resigned from the primary membership of the BJP by sending my resignation to the state party president, Narendra Singh Tomar," Lodhi told PTI.
When asked about his future plans, Lodhi, who is a former member of the legislative Assembly said that at present he is standing on a crossroad, but it is not advisable to remain in such a position for long and therefore take a decision on the issue soon.
"I will go where I will get respect," Lodhi said. Asked about the reasons for quitting BJP, he said that he has lost faith in the party.
"I am of the opinion that after 60 years of age, nobody should become prime minister and chief minister. The Constitution should be amended on the issue," Lodhi said.
