Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday charged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh with making 'false' promises and alleged that the state government has failed on all fronts.

Addressing his first election meeting in the state for the November 27 assembly elections at the Sokal ground in Harda, the Congress leader said the BJP ran out of promises which it had not fulfilled during its five-year tenure, and it has made further promises in a bid to woo voters.

Alleging that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in the state has failed on all fronts, he said it has not done anything in the power sector, for constructing roads or for the welfare of the womenfolk.

Rahul pointed out that according to a report, Madhya Pradesh topped all the states in the country on atrocities on women.

The BJP also talked of terrorism in the country and the manner in which it was being handled by the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre, he said.

Rahul reminded the BJP that it was during the National Democratic Alliance regime that a hijacked plane was allowed to go to Kandahar in Afghanistan and dreaded extremists were released in exchange.

The Congress-led UPA government's biggest achievement is the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which provides job opportunities to rural people from the country, he added.
