In a veiled attack on the violent campaign against North Indians, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Friday said some people are trying to spoil the cosmopolitan image of Mumbai.

'It's too late to contain Raj Thackeray'

"People of Maharashtra are large-hearted and they have accepted everyone. But some people want to spoil that image," Deshmukh said in an apparent reference to Raj Thackeray-led MNS, which has launched an agitation against north Indian migrants to Mumbai and the state.

"The Marathi manoos (people) should not get influenced by such people," Deshmukh said, speaking at a felicitation function organised by Mumbai Regional Congress Committee chief Kripashankar Singh in Mumbai to mark completion of four years of the Democratic Front government on November one.

Without mentioning the resignation of five JD-U MPs over attacks on north Indians, Deshmukh said 'very few people feel that there is insecurity in Mumbai. They should not send a wrong message'.
