The Congress in Karnataka seems to have come to terms with the fact that Assembly elections will be held in the month of May.
Senior Congress leaders from New Delhi don't want the state body to be caught unawares and have hence decided that it is best for the party to be poll-ready.
The Congress is yet to resolve its leadership crisis and there has been a delay in announcing the return of S M Krishna into active politics. Besides media speculation, there was talk of Krishna quitting his post as Maharasthra Governor and returning to Karnataka.
Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chauvan, who flew in to Bengaluru, has announced that the Congress is prepared to face the elections and clarified that all they were demanding was a free and fair election. He also said that it was wrong to say that the Congress wanted to delay the polls.
Insisting that they would do everything in their capacity to woo voters in Karnataka, Chauvan said that four rallies will be organised; one for the farmers, one for minorities, another for the tribals and a one highlighting the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance.
