For the United Progressive Alliance, help came in droves on Tuesday. Apart from its allies, MPs from other parties also voted in favour of them. As many as 15 MPs cross-voted and helped the UPA sail through in a contest what was expected to be close. Finally, they, along with the abstentions, made it a no-contest.
It was the MPs from the BJP that leads the pack. Five BJP MPs- Chandrabhan Singh, Haribhau Rathod, Manorama Madhwaraj, Manjunath Khunnur and HT Sangliana violated the party whip and voted for the UPA. Besides, two suspended BJP MPs Sombhai Patel and Babulal Katara also voted for the UPA.
Two MPs from the Janata Dal (U) and the Telugu Desam Party voted for the UPA.
One MP each from the Janata Dal (S) Shiromani Akali Dal, Shiv Sena and Biju Janata Dal voted for UPA.
The UPA could also thank the 10 MPs who abstained from voting on Tuesday. Two BJP MPs -- one from Karnataka, another from Maharashtra -- and one MP from the Shiv Sena also abstained.
