The Bombay High Court today constituted an interim committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge B N Srikrishna to recommend measures to the government with a view to preventing recurrence of last month's terror attacks in the city.
The committee will comprise state's Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, State Finance and Home Secretaries and eminent citizens from different walks of life in Mumbai.
The committee will in no way interfere with investigation into attacks or the government's decision-making process, a division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice Sharad Bobde said responding to six PILs on the terror attacks.
The court also expressed displeasure that the State Security Council set up by the government on December 2 has not yet met even once.
The court-appointed committee, which will work from the state secretariat) will have its meeting on December 26. The committee will submit its report to the High Court before the next hearing scheduled after six weeks. The High Court also said only one person be authorised to give information about ongoing investigation of terror attacks to avoid conflicting stories appearing in the media currently.
