The Maharashtra government on Wednesday announced a high-level probe against Director General of Police A N Roy and Commissioner of Police Mumbai Hasan Gafoor over their alleged lapses during the Mumbai terror attack, a day after the opposition Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party demanded their removal.
The announcement about the probe against the two senior police officials was made by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in the assembly in Nagpur today, after Home Minister Jayant Patil replied to a debate on the Mumbai terror attack in the House.
Earlier today, Patil said the Maharashtra government will set up a special court in consultation with the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, to try cases related to the terror attack.
The chargesheet against perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack will be filed within seven days, he said.
Advocate Ujwal Nikam has been appointed as special public prosecutor in the case, Patil informed the House.
The government would also set up a state security council under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Patil said.
