Contradictions and loose ends in the alleged incident of gang rape of a call centre employee in Pune have baffled police working on a complaint lodged by the girl's friend.
According to the FIR filed by one Hansraj, the alleged gang rape victim -- employed at IBM call centre at Phursungi, around 30 km from Pune -- had received a call on the night of August 7 saying she was called back for some work.
A cab that picked her took her to a hillock where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by around ten men, it said.
The girl, who is said to have suffered a mental shock, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and according to police, is not in a position to narrate the incident.
However, Ravindra Pardeshi, DSP, said certain contradictions had surfaced during the police investigations based on the FIR filed by Hansraj, whom the girl supposedly told about the incident.
Police said the girl's identity is still not disclosed. As per the version of the call centre officials, the girl had left workplace for the day in the afternoon after her duty hours and had not been summoned back in the night.
Another contradiction was that the room partners of the girl maintain that she was at home at the time of the alleged crime.
On the girl being picked up by the company cab, police sources said it was strange for her to do that as she lived in the building just a stone throw away, facing the call centre and she always walked down the distance.
Although police have registered complaint against around ten unknown persons on the basis of the FIR, the investigating officers on Sunday said that no definite clue can be achieved in the case unless and until the alleged victim herself records a statement.
