As Bangalore doctor Sabeel Ahmed confessed that he withheld information on the botched up Glasgow airport terror plot, his mother Zakia Ahmed on Friday maintained that he is innocent and is looking up to God to have her son back in India.
"He is innocent. He got trapped in a conspiracy," Zakia said while reacting to reports that Sabeel had confessed in a London court that he had withheld information that could have prevented the act of terrorism.
Zakia, whose another son Kafeel drove the burning jeep into Glasgow airport on June 30 last year and later succumbed to burns, hoped Sabeel would come out clean in the case.
Zakia broke down while talking to PTI and said "Insha Allah. I have full confidence in Allah. I am sure my prayers will be answered".
Indian doctor Sabeel, who worked at Halton Hospital in Runcorn, has been charged under the United Kingdom Terrorism Act 2000 for holding back information, which he knew or believed may be of material assistance in preventing the commission by another of an act of terrorism.
Zakia, who seemed tense on learning about her son's confession, said, "My ultimate goal is to see that my son is back with me in India".
Asked to spell her plans in her pursuit to bail out her son and whether she will seek the Indian government's support, she said, "I will see how things go. Let us see. I do not have any idea of the legal aspects".
She appealed to the media to convey her message to her son.
