Karnataka will shut down on April 10 to protest against the Hogenekal water project issue. A dawn to dusk bandh will be observed across the state, to urge Tamil Nadu against going ahead with the water project at Hogenekal, which is on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border.
The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, which claims to be spearheading the protests, along with several other pro-Kannada organisations, has called the bandh on April 10.
Vedike president T Narayana Gowda has urged all government offices, schools and offices in the IT sector to support the bandh on April 10 in order to show solidarity towards their cause. He assured that the bandh would be peaceful and added that he had called upon Vedike activists across the state to maintain calm.
The Vedike is also planning a procession in Kollegal taluk in Karnataka to create awareness about the issue. The Vedike members have also decided to stage a day-long protest in Hogenekal.
Barring a few stray incidents of stone pelting, Karnataka continues to remain largely peaceful. Police personnel have been deployed in various parts of the city to avoid any untoward incidents.
