The body of Jatin Sarkar, father of one of the victims in the Nithari serial killings and a complainant in the case, has been recovered from a river in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
Superintendent of Police Rahul Srivastava on Thursday said the body was recovered on September one and post-mortem reports stated that he died of drowning.
The Sarkar family was on a visit to their ancestral home in the district and the mishap occurred while he was taking bath in the nearby Bhagirathi River, the victim's wife Bandana told PTI.
Neighbours too said Jatin was swept away by strong currents and they recovered and rushed him to Berhampur Sadar hospital where he was declared brought dead.
His daughter, Pinky, was one of the victims of the Nithari serial killings in which children, mostly girls, were allegedly raped and killed by accused Maninder Singh Pandher and Surendra Kohli.
The CBI had given a clean chit to Pandher in most of the cases while charging the latter's servant Kohli with rape and murder.
Sarkar had collectively filed a petition, along with the parents of two other victims, in the court of Special CBI Judge Sapna Mishra in Ghaziabad on April 28 seeking re-probe of the case.
At least 17 human skulls and bones were dug up from near the house Pandher, in Noida's Sector 31 in December last year.
