After Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's allegation that her convoy was fired on en route to Nandigram, party leader and Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee claimed that he was fired at from country-made guns when he was on his way to the trouble-torn area.

"A mob blocked my car at Brindabanchak and fired pellets, one of which hit the car," Chatterjee said. Contacted at Kolkata, West Bengal Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said, "We are verifying it."

Chatterjee, the TC general secretary, said he wanted to go to Khejuri, a CPI(M) stronghold adjacent to Nandigram, but was told by the police not to venture there.

Chatterjee said, "There is no law and order at Khejuri where CPI(M)-backed goons have unleashed a reign of terror and the administration remains a passive spectator."

He also claimed that there were cases of arson at Ranichak. Describing as a 'gimmick' Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee's call to opposition parties to help find a political solution to the Nandigram imbroglio, Chatterjee said.
