Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should explain the reason behind their 'sudden volte face' on the nuclear deal, state Bharatiya Janata Party president L Ganesan said on Thursday.

"Sonia Gandhi's remark that those who opposed the deal were working against the nation and the challenge by Manmohan Singh to Left parties to withdraw support on the issue, are still fresh in the minds of the people," he said.

The people should know the reason for the "temporary suspension of the nuclear deal with the US and sudden volte face" of these leaders, Ganesan said.

The United Progressive Alliance government will not complete its full term and elections to the Lok Sabha will be held in another six month,he said. Ganesan added that as there was a bi-polarisation of politics, BJP will discuss its poll strategy and likely alliances on October 29 in Chennai.

On the Sethusamudram Project, he said that instead of blaming the BJP for the delay in its implementation, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should ask the UPA government, which had sought three months time to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court.

Karunanidhi and the Centre were fully aware that the project was not going to be implemented as the funding agency had backed out, after which dredgers were shifted from the spot, Ganesan said
