As the Left parties indicated softening of their opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal, senior Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Tuesday met Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat to discuss the joint strategy to be adopted during the upcoming Parliament session.

"There are issues of common concern and Indo-US nuclear deal is one of them," Amar Singh, who is the spokesman of United National Progressive Alliance, told reporters after about a 30-minute meeting.

He said he had met Karat to discuss the common floor strategy to be adopted during the Parliament session beginning on Thursday but did not elaborate.

Asked about the softening of stand by the Left parties on the nuclear deal, the SP leader sought to disagree. "I am strongly against the general feeling that the Left has diluted its stand on the issue," he said.

At the same time, he noted that "talking does not mean signing of the pact," apparently referring to the Left's reported nod to the government to go ahead with negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency for safeguards agreement.

"There is surely a way out of the present stand off, but it can't be divulged to the media today," Amar Singh said.

During the meeting, Karat assured Amar Singh that the Left would participate in the UNPA's farmers rally on November 24 in Andhra Pradesh.
