Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that her party had no plans to halt normal life in West Bengal on Tuesday as other political parties had shortened their bandhs from 48 hours to 24 hours.
"Our programme is not to paralyse normal life of the people, but non-cooperation with the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government which is responsible for the massacre in Nandigram. We will continue to boycott the government," Banerjee told a meeting in Amta at Howrah district on her way back to Kolkata.
"Let all roads be open tomorrow so that relief can reach the affected and so that people can go about their daily normal lives. We are also concerned about daily wage earners," she said.
"I have heard that two parties have withdrawn their bandhs for tomorrow. I had promised our support if their bandh continued. But since they have withdrawn it, the question of support does not arise," the Trinamool leader added.
BJP state secretary Rahul Sinha said: "The BJP has decided to withdraw tomorrow's bandh in view of the visit by the BJP delegation to Nandigram and sending relief to the affected people."
