Prime accused in 7/11 blasts held in Aurangabad arms case

Faisal Shaikh, one of the prime accused in the July 11 train bombings, was on Friday arrested in connection with the Aurangabad arms haul that occurred a few months before the serial blasts.

According to the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Shaikh Naeem alias Sameer, who was arrested by it on April 24 in connection with the arms haul, had revealed that Shaikh too had a role in transporting RDX and arms seized in Aurangabad in May 2006.

Shaikh, now in judicial custody, was produced before special MCOCA judge Mrudula Bhatkar and the ATS sought his custody to carry out further investigations.

The court remanded him to police custody till May 14. The ATS had seized 43 kg of RDX, 16 AK-56 assault rifles and ammunition when its personnel intercepted a vehicle carrying the consignment near Aurangabad in 2006.
