Rekha, wife of slain Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, on Friday identified Pravin Mahajan as the person who had fired at her husband on April 22, 2006.
"I saw Pravin Mahajan fire at Pramod with a pistol that he had," she told the court, which started the trial in the case on Wednesday.
After seeing Pravin shoot at Pramod, she said she had covered her husband in order to protect him.
Thereafter, she pushed Pravin out of the room, but he kept trying to fire at Pramod, she said.
However, an emotional Rekha broke down after she was asked to state the date on which Pramod passed away.
She was examined by a doctor in the court, who said that she was not fit to continue giving her statement.
Sessions Judge S P Davare adjourned the proceedings to March 26.
Rekha was accompanied by her daughter Poonam, BJP leader Gopinath Munde's wife Pradnya and her brother-in-law Prakash Mahajan.
Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam asked if Rakha could identify the pistol with which Pravin had allegedly shot Pramod and she did so in the court.
She also identified the clothes Pravin had worn on the day of the incident, Nikam later told PTI.
