After President A P J Abdul Kalam's rejection of their offer, the Third Front on Friday declared that it will not support either the National Democratic Alliance or the United Progressive Alliance-Left nominee in the upcoming Presidential election.
""We have already decided that we will not support the candidates of UPA-Left combine and the NDA. We will need some time to think about our next step," AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa told reporters after their meeting with Kalam and later with NDA leaders at former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's house.
When asked repeatedly whether the newly-formed United National Progressive Alliance would support Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Jayalalithaa referred to the decision already taken that it would not support either UPA-Left or NDA.
However, she was effusive in her words of thanks to NDA leaders, especially Vajpayee and senior BJP leader L K Advani and to the statesman-like decision of Shekhawat to support UNPA's proposal for Kalam's nomination.
