Devotees of lord Ganesha visiting Siddhivinayak temple in central Mumbai will not be allowed to offer flowers, garlands and coconuts to the deity.
This is a precautionary measure for the safety of the temple, which is in terrorist's hit list, police said.
The Siddhivinayak temple already has a bulletproof wall surrounding it and "now we have requested the devotees not to offer big flower garlands and coconuts to lord Ganesh. This is just a precautionary measure for the safety of the devotees and the temple," an officer of the Dadar police said on Monday.
The chief executive of the temple Hanumanta Jagtap told PTI, "We have been told by the police not to accept big garlands and coconuts as offering from the devotees."
Asked whether there was any fresh threat to the temple, he said: "I do not know. You have to ask the police."
However, the police did not elaborate much and only said that it was a precautionary measure.
