"I want my husband back in India with all the self-respect he had left India with," says Firdous Ashriya, whose husband Dr Haneef Mohammad, has been accused of links with a British terror plot, then granted bail, thereafter had his visa revoked and now faces deportation from Australia.

Soon after the news broke out that the doctor may be deported to India after the legal proceedings against him conclude, Firdous told rediff.com she did not want him to return to India with his present image.

"I don't mind if he stays there and faces a trial," Firdous, an engineer, said. "Once he comes out clean, only then let him come back."

She added it would be very difficult for the family if Dr Haneef returned with the present stigma over him.

Firdous, who gave birth to a baby girl last fortnight, said she was sure her husband would come out clean.

"I want him to come back with the reputation he had left India with," she said.
