In the backdrop of reports that the failed UK terror plot suspect Khafeel Ahmed was allegedly connected to 'some groups', the state police on Thursday said it was keeping a close watch on 'any activities' that could impact the law and order situtation in Karnataka.
"Any activity that could have a detrimental effect on the peace, harmony and causing security concerns would be under watch by the police," Director General of Police K R Srinivasan told PTI in Bangalore on Thursday.
To a question about the activities of some groups coming under the police scanner following the unearthing of the UK terror plot, Srinivasan said, "We will be watching all activities that have a bearing on the law and order situation in the state."
Srinivasan refused to name any particular group whose activities would be closely monitored.
Clarifiying the nature of activites that would be under the scanner, he said citizens were free to hold meetings or demonstrations as constitutionally guaranteed.
However, activities that were likely to lead to law and order problems would be under scanner and closely monitored, including prohibition of any inflammatory speeches.
On whether any restrictions were likely to be imposed, he said, "As per the law, there is no restriction on the movement of Indians. However, it imposes some restrictions on movements of foreigners which will be followed."
To a query on the overall implications for the state police, if the UK police was able to establish with concrete proof the Bangalore connection in the UK terror plot, he declined to comment on anything "hypothetical".
