The Noida police does not see any basis behind the news reports suggesting cannibalism as one of the reasons behind the serial killings that has sent shock waves across the country.
News reports claiming that one of the two key suspects had confessed feasting on the livers of his victims, who were brutally done to death, seem to have left the cops themselves aghast.
"I fail to understand how the media could arrive at this conclusion when the narco-analysis tests on both Mohinder Singh Pandher and his servant Surendra Kohli, the two arrested culprits, has barely begun," Noida Senior Superintendent of Police R K S Rathore told this scribe.
"It is rather premature to say anything right now; but considering that they did indulge in barbarous brutalities and were surely extreme perverts, we do rule out any possibility," he added.
Pandher and Kohli were flown along with a team of Noida policemen to Ahmedabad on Friday for the special tests at the Directorate of Forensic Sciences there.
"Our team is in no position to say anything until the narco-analysis tests are complete; in fact the tests have formally commenced only today," Rathore said.
"It appears that once a theory on cannibalism was floated by TV channels, the print media too decided to promptly lap it up without even cross-checking the authenticity of the TV report," he pointed out.
