A day after his arrest, Abdul Qayyum Shaikh, accused in the 1993 serial blasts case and key member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, on Wednesday gave some details about the gang's activities to interrogators.

A senior crime branch official claimed that contrary to media reports suggesting that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim had undergone a plastic surgery, Shaikh has told them that the gangster has just shaved off only his moustache.

"Qayyum says he had also got the invitation to attend the wedding of Dawood's daughter with Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad's son in Dubai in 2005 but did not go there. But he has accepted to meeting Dawood in Dubai in the recent past," said the officer.

According to another officer, Shaikh (42) has told the interrogators about at least two members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, who operate from Dubai, are involved in carrying out extortions and kidnappings in India.

"Aftab Alam alias Vicky and one Abhit are hiding in Dubai and were also involved in the sensational Raj Aggrawal kidnapping case," said the officer.

According to Shaikh, whose family used to supply dresses to Bollywood production houses, he acquired a flourmill in Russia recently and also worked on commission basis trading in gold in the Dubai bullion market.

"He has very good relations with the Arabs and used to get into any import-export business on commission basis due to the contacts," said the officer. Shaikh was arrested from a North East Mumbai hotel in a special operation on Tuesday and booked under stringent MCOCA. He has been remanded to police custody till February 28.
