Eleven people, including a scribe, were killed and eight others reported missing in incidents of landslides and house collapse triggered by heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh since Saturday night, official sources said on Sunday.
Zee TV reporter Shobhana Singh, who was on way to Chandratal pond in Lahual and Spiti for news coverage, died while the cameraman and the driver were injured near Chattru late on Saturday evening following a landslip.
Lahual and Spiti Deputy Commissioner S Rathore told PTI over phone that the trio tried to push their vehicle stranded in mud when they were hit by the landslide.
While the cameraman and driver escaped, Shobhana Singh was crushed to death.
Five persons died in Mandi district in a house collapse in Chechoit village, three died in similar fashion in Bilaspur and one each in Kinnaur and Hamirpur, the sources said.
A report from Dharamsala said eight persons were reported missing in a landslide near Jwalamukhi temple.
Search operation by the Sahashtra Suraksha Bal and the district administration was on, they said.
Nagrota Surya tehsil of Kangra district has been cut off from the rest of the country due to landslides, the sources said.
Landslips have also been reported from Palampur and other places of the district.
A report from Hamirpur said normal life has been crippled following incessant rain in the region.
Two main bridges, one near Jahoo Kaswa linking Hamirpur with Mandi district and another near Dhamrol village of Bhoranj subdivision caved in due to heavy rainfall.
