The last rites of Khafeel Ahmed, the engineer from Bangalore may be held in the United Kingdom, according to intelligence sources.
Although Bangalore police Commissioner N Achuth Rao denies having any official communication on this issue, sources in the intelligence Bureau have confirmed that the UK authorities had conveyed to both the family members and the Bangalore police that the last ritesĀ of Khafeel will be held in the UK.
Khafeel had been admitted to hospital after the UK terror plot with 90 per cent burn injuries. He died in hospital on Friday.
Sources said that the UK authorities had sought permission from the family members as well as the Bangalore police to conduct the last rites of Khafeel Ahmed in UK. Both parties did not object, it is learnt. It is stated that the family wanted the last rites to be conducted as per the Muslim tradition, which the UK authorities are said to have agreed to.
The UK authorities had cited problems to shift the body of Khafeel Ahmed to Bangalore, his home town. First and foremost the family was not too forthcoming on claiming the body as they still maintain in public that it is not their son. Secondly the body is in bad shape as Khafeel had suffered extensive burns. Apart from this the UK authorities would have needed to book at least four seats on a plane to transport the body and once in Bangalore there could have been a law and order problem. It is said that at least two days would have been needed to shift the body to India.
To avoid all these problems, the British authorities are learnt to have decided upon conducting the last rite of Khafeel in UK as per the Muslim tradition.
