Officers of the Anti Terrorist Squad on Wednesday morning visited doctor Mohammed Haneef's house in Bangalore.
They were told that he had gone to a relative's house. The officers then informed the family members that they should keep the city police informed about his whereabouts and movements.
The move comes a day after Australian Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews released a transcript of an online chat between Haneef and a relative soon after the failed terror attack in Britain.
The city police and the intelligence officialshave now decided to intensify their investigation. A police officer said, "We are not taking any chances. The statement by the Australian minister has charged the entire perspective of this case. We feel that the surveillance on Haneef must be on 24 hours."
The minister had said Haneef's chat records indicate that he was aware of the UK terror plot.
The Bangalore police have found no evidence against Haneef till now. He is likely to be called in for questioning later during the day and the focus would be to retrieve information from him about the activities of Kafeel and Sabeel Ahmed.
Apart from this the cops also intend conducting a search at Haneef's house both in Frazer Town and BTM Layout in Bangalore.
Joint Commissioner of Police Gopal B Hosur said that they would decide about the manner in which the inquiry has to be conducted after talking to Haneef.
Meanwhile it is learnt that Haneef is on a holiday at a resort in the outskirts of the city along with his wife, sister, mother and brother.
