Eight more persons, including the city convenor of the radical Hindu Rashtriya Sena, were arrested on Tueasday in connection with the ransacking of the Star News office in Mumbai.

This takes the number of arrests for Monday's attack on the private news channel to 26, police said.

Activists of the hitherto unknown group allegedly vandalised the office of Star News after it beamed a report on a Surat-based Hindu-Muslim couple. The activists, who left behind posters and pamphlets, said the 16-year-old Hindu girl was shown in a 'bad light' by the channel.

"We arrested the Mumbai convenor of HRS Vishal Desai with seven others. Prasad Apte, a co-convenor, was arrested on Monday," Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohan Lohia told PTI.

All those arrested are in their early 20s and hail from a western suburb. Police suspect they may have come together for the protest under the banner of the Pune-based organisation.

All 26 arrested persons were produced in a local court that remanded them to police custody till April 21.
